A Common Cause of Constipation: Eating Cold Fruit

Dr. Karlo Mauro, N.D.

Last article, I shared with you the art and science of ripening fruit. Someone emailed me and asked...

"If we should put fruit in the fridge once it's become ripe, doesn't that mean we'll end up eating cold fruit? In one of your articles you advised against eating cold food."

Yes, that's right. Cold food (and drink) will inhibit the proper flow of acids and enzymes in your body. The only exception is if you are overheated.

Eating cold fruit all the time can definitely cause constipation. So here's a quick way to warm up fruit after it comes out of the fridge...

1. Place it in a bowl.

2. Fill that bowl up with hot water and drain. Repeat. (This is to clean the fruit.)

3. Cover the fruit with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes. The bigger the fruit, the longer it'll need to sit. 1 minute for grapes, 5 minutes for an apple or orange. Watermelon could take a while.

If you're in a real rush, cut the fruit up first.

If you are not eating organic you may want to add a tablespoon of vinegar to the water. This will help remove some of the pesticides from the skin. However, if it's not organic, you should probably just peel it. Of course, you can't do this with fruit likes grapes. So use vinegar or go organic.

DO NOT try to warm the fruit up in the microwave. This will kill the fruit. If you don't believe me, try planting a microwaved apple in the ground and see what little happens.

You can also use a bowl of hot water to heat up other foods like milk or juice. It's easier than being on guard against a pot over-boiling on the stove.

Just make sure you don't use a glass bowl, as these will shatter when exposed to high heats.

I also don't recommend plastic, as toxins may leach into your fruit.

Clay is the best choice. Or you can use a non-stick pot. Iron is best.

Bottom line is, if you want to get rid of your constipation, bloating and gas, start eating your fruit warmed up.
